To the west of St.Agnes lies Porthtowan, a small village on Cornwall's Atlantic Ocean facing north coast. Porthtowan Beach is one of the UK's top surfing beaches consisting of wide soft white sands. The name Porthtowan comes from the Cornish words 'Porth' and 'Tewynn' to mean 'cove of sand dunes'.
