Situated on the north coast of Cornwall roughly seven miles from Wadebridge is the village of Polzeath. With a large sandy beach at low tide, Polzeath is one of England's most well known beaches for surfing due to the Atlantic Ocean swells rolling in and therefore is a very popular place all year round. A short walk along the coastal path will take you to the nearby and often quieter beaches of Broadagogue Cove and Daymer Bay.

Polzeath
The beach at Polzeath becomes a vast expanse of sand at low tide but on a high spring tide, especially if there is a big swell rolling in off the Atlantic Ocean the beach can be completely covered, even the upper part of the beach which is often used as a car park.

Storm Clouds Over Polzeath
A sudden burst of sunlight shines through the gathering clouds on a winters day at Polzeath.
About this photograph
Taken on Monday 3rd January 2011 at 15:42, I had decided to go to Polzeath in order to get some photographs using a slow shutter speed to create a flowing motion effect to the sea. With the gathering dark clouds overhead this was ideal as I needed the light to be right and a sudden burst of sunshine through the clouds lit up the houses in the distance. I used a shutter speed of 2 seconds for this photograph.

Polzeath
A freezing cold but wonderful sunny winters day at Polzeath. With temperatures barely getting above freezing, the water running down the golden sands of the beach actually freezes and forms a sheet of ice on the beach.
